The Builder's Lab

Builds, prototypes & tools

Documenting physical builds, prototypes, and technical tools.

Foundational note: My approach to prototyping is grounded in early mechanical engineering projects, spanning explicit dynamics simulations (FEA), vertical-axis wind turbine aerodynamics, and Formula Student chassis design. All eight of those college builds (2016–2020) are archived on my blog, Life of a Mechanical Engineer.

Formula Student: 97 Iterations to a Race-Car Chassis

As head designer for my college's first Formula Student team, I spent five months and 97 iterations balancing a rulebook, weight and strength. Looking back, it was my first program, before I knew the word.
